Landenberg is an unincorporated area in the southern tip of Chester County, where Pennsylvania meets Delaware and sits a few miles from Maryland. There is no town center to speak of; instead, Landenberg is a stretch of wooded hills, stream valleys and winding back roads in townships such as London Britain, New Garden and Franklin. Newark, Delaware, and its shopping and rail access are only a short drive south.
The White Clay Creek Preserve covers much of the land along the creek's branches on the Pennsylvania side, continuing into White Clay Creek State Park across the Delaware line, with trails for hiking, horseback riding and fishing. Housing in Landenberg is mostly single-family homes on larger lots, many on an acre or more, along with some older farmhouses, custom-built homes, and a few planned communities. Because most properties rely on private wells and septic systems, and because taxes and services depend on the township, buyers should check each home's township and system records carefully.
