Georgetown is the county seat of Sussex County, laid out in the 1790s near the county's center so it would be within a day's ride for everyone. The town is built around The Circle, where the Sussex County Courthouse stands, and every two years the Circle hosts Return Day, a tradition dating back to the early 1800s in which election results are read aloud after a parade.
US-113 and US-9 cross in Georgetown, and Route 18 heads west, so the beaches, Milford and Seaford are all within a reasonable drive. Delaware Coastal Airport sits on the south side of town, and Delaware Technical Community College's Owens Campus is just outside town limits. Housing in Georgetown includes older homes on the streets around the Circle, modest postwar houses, townhomes, and newer single-family subdivisions on the edges of town. Land and rural homes with acreage are also common in the surrounding countryside. Prices here often differ from the coastal towns, so it helps to compare both if you're open on location.
